Mise
Every recipe, in its place.
Mise draws a recipe as a table rather than a list. Ingredients run down the left; every other cell is a step, and it brackets exactly the things that go into it. Read left to right and you follow the cooking. Read a cell up and down and you see everything it takes.
Getting help
Email octanes_maraca_0s@icloud.com. A real person reads it. If something went wrong, say which device you were on and what you had just done — that is usually enough to find it.
Where are my recipes kept?
In one file on your device, called recipes.db. Not in an
account, not on a server. Nobody else can reach it, including us.
That has a consequence worth knowing: if you delete the app, the recipes go with it. There is no copy anywhere to restore from.
How do I back it up?
Use Tools ▸ Back Up the Library. Save the file somewhere you keep things — iCloud Drive, a folder on a computer, an external disk. That one file is everything: the recipes, their earlier versions, the original pages they came from, your notes and your cooking log.
How do I move my recipes to another device?
- Back up the library on the first device.
- Get that file onto the second device — AirDrop is easiest.
- On the second device, open the Files app and go to Browse ▸ On My iPad ▸ Mise.
- Put the file in that folder and rename it to
recipes.db, exactly. Replace the one already there. - Open Mise.
The name matters more than anything else on this page. The app looks for that exact filename, so a backup left called "Mise backup 16 Aug" is invisible to it — and because the app makes a new empty library when it cannot find one, the symptom is an app that opens perfectly and shows nothing.
Is there sync between my devices?
No. Two devices editing one library will not merge, and Mise does not pretend otherwise: whichever file you copied last is the library you have. Moving the file by hand is the whole story, and it is the price of not having an account.
A recipe came out wrong
Reading a photograph of a cookbook page is guesswork, and Mise treats it as guesswork. Anything it was unsure about goes into Needs checking with a note saying what it could not work out. Fixing it there takes seconds; finding out at the stove does not.
Does Mise send anything anywhere?
No. There are no accounts, no analytics and no advertising. The only network request it makes is fetching a recipe page when you paste its address in — and that page is read on your device and nothing about it is recorded. See the privacy policy.
